Klimt Pattern from Stoclet Frieze Photo FrameDesign for the Stoclet Freeze (1905-09) This photo frame was based on the design Klimt made for the short side of the frieze at the Palais Stoclet in Brussels, a villa built entirely in the style of the Vienna Secession. Measures: 9"H x 5.5"W x 0.25"D. Part of the museum reproductions in the Parastone Mouseion 3D Collection . Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) Klimt was a prominent member of an innovating group of artists called'Sezession' and is considered to be one of the main pioneers of modernart. Apart from this, his ornamental Jugendstil style evokes anirresistible feeling which is inspired by the 'fin-de-siecle' of 19thcentury Vienna: elitist, liberal-middle class, decadent,pleasantly-decorative. His work is extremely recognizable due to hismonumental style combined with Byzantine-like ornamental art andclassical symbolism, created against the background of romanticism whichwas so characteristic of his time. In Sezession's own words: "Artguides us to an ideal realm, the only place where we will be able tofind pure joy, pure happiness and pure love. A choir of angels fromparadise. Joy given by divine sparkles. That kiss from the entireworld!"
